T April 13, 2010 S. Bhaskaran (London, England) If the XBOX 360 was a car than it would be an Alfa Romeo. Yes, it would a constant pain, the fact of the matter is. If you are a hardcore gamer then this is not a great option for you. Some people have complained to Microsoft about the glitches and red light issue where it fails to work. In addition to this the reason why I've only awarded 3 stars for it is because it has many DVD drive issues while the PS3 has hardly any glitches after than problem with its 20GB version. If you own your XBOX for more than two years you'll realise that the DVD drive will constantly give your XBOX glitches. I don't know if its an issue with the lower or higher end models, but it is nightmare with this model and it costs £30 for a good quality drive from Amazon.
However on the other hand if you are an online gamer than the XBOX 360 is your definite choice. The variety of different gamers is herculean. You're are always playing new people and it is excting if you are hooked up to a good spec teley like the Sony Bravia. In addition to this project Natal is coming soon so it will be even better then a Wii. The graphics are crisp if you play on a HD display and it makes a good media device for those wanting more. However in the meantime just one question why buy it when the PS3 around and the Wii makes excellent party piece; small, elegant and suitable for all ages . However, if you want the best online gameplay experience or a budget entertainment system XBOX 360 is for you.
Fun console with technical issues April 6, 2010 Rune (Copenhagen, Denmark) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
First of all, I'd like to say that XBOX gives a wide range of games, which appeals to most gaming needs (including my own).
However, after a short while I've had issues with some of the game CDs which the console failed to read.
The CDs were new and it happened with all the CDs, so it was only a console issue.
I've contacted support, and they refused to admit that there's an issue with the console which they should fix.
Today the console is not able to read most discs, including movie DVDs and games, unless I try ~50 times until it manages to read it, if I'm lucky.
Note that the console has always been in the horizontal position, so it's less probable that it has scratched the discs.
To conclude, I would strongly discourage anyone from buying this console because it can become unusable and they won't fix it.
Xbox360,not a game but oh well March 28, 2010 D. Mortimer (Nottinghamshire,England,UK) Very good condition console had it a few weeks now and everything seems to be working well. Very good deal for the console and extras for such a good price.
Xbox + Xbox Live = Brilliance March 10, 2010 John Kerr (Glasgow) I think that the Xbox 360 combined with Xbox live is the best console system yet. Games are resonable too.
Touch wood, I've not had any problems with the one I bought from Amazon.
One of the most frustrating consoles in history February 21, 2010 Dan Morgan-kane (U.K.) Quite simply, I agree quite strongly with some of the opinions shared here. Microsoft have undoubtedly got a great concept on their hands. You can have the best games, the best service and the most gamers; but all of that means absolutely nothing if the damn thing won't work. This is the story of the XBOX 360.
For everything that is great about the XBOX 360, I can think of an issue of equal measure against it. Take, for example, the LIVE service. LIVE is a great online service that, although paid, is one that many people feel is worth the cost. Especially around 2006-2009, there was nothing even close that the PS3 or Wii had in terms of functionality and ease of use. However, with LIVE being one of it's strengths, the quite frankly disgraceful failure rates of these machines, in my opinion, outweigh even LIVE's appeal. Anyone who has a release date console still in action now has bragging rights (although even they say a prayer every night). How bad does a system have to be where this situation exists?!
I've heard people say that they replace your console and give you a month of LIVE. I think that misses the point, really. I mean, whatever happened to quality control? How about the inconvenience of everything? What happens now my console is out of it's warranty and I've already gone through several units? What if I don't use LIVE? I consider what is, in truth, a taste which costs them nothing as almost a slap in the face. When my console breaks down, I don't want adverts and trials, I want it to be taken seriously that I've been sold a defective product.
Microsoft's machine has also a mighty line-up of exclusives (for which this 60GB model is well-equipped). Granted, the PS3 has now an equally strong selection. But, especially in the earlier days, Microsoft's easy-to-program-for machines were receiving the best games and the most. But, once again we are hampered by, if not the all-consuming failure rates, the constant and supposedly-unnecessary costs. For example, the wireless internet adaptor costs about £60 (and wasn't even top-spec until recently)! Even the Nintendo DS, which is available for under £50, has wireless built-in! I mean, come on guys!
It's a very frustrating console and a very frustrating time for many gamers. It's really unfortunate that a generation of gaming, although still somewhat unaffected, has nonetheless been dragged down by quality of production (don't even get me started on the laser-burning fiasco), and steep and hidden costs (like the Nintendo Wii and their endless costs for controllers and add-ons). Some see that as choice. But, the reality is that many people look to get the most out of their consoles and find that the initial price-tag is just the start.
The Xbox 360 will, for me, be remembered for great games and good online, but hampered by shocking failure rates and quality control, and seemingly endless costs and inconveniences...
