5 out of 5 stars Runs fine if you use the hard drive.   August 31, 2010

This xbox is a little bit smaller than the old versions which is obviously better. It does get very dusty because of the type of plastic that covers it but this isn't too much of a problem. The hard drive is now inserted underneath which makes it hard to remove but you don't remove it too much anyway. It is whisper quiet if you use the 250GB space and install your games. The power box is probably louder than the xbox. The touch controls on the front can be annoying when you touch them by accident but just have to be careful. It looks much better and runs alot better than my old xbox. I recommend you buy it.

I really don't get it?

I have owned a PS3 for 3 years now and love it but given Kinect was coming out I thought I'd get a 360 and give it a bash...

OK so here's why I got rid....

1. It's SO LOUD... The external power supply has a fan built in it which sounds like a jet engine.
2. The controllers are heavy and need batteries? what? seriously? I had to go and buy batteries and a charger.
3. I have to pay to go online? seriously?
4. Networking movies is damn near impossible to set up fast, I have a QNAP TS210 set up with Twonky media server and 3 TV's, PS3 and Sony Blu-ray player all see it fine. Yet the xbox doesn't see it? so I transfered a movie to a flash drive, to play it the 360 wanted some file off the net first, selected that but then it wanted me to sign up to live to get it. What a faff on, after everything it still didn't work, spent several hours and eventually got it working but then found it won't play half my files, most of them need re-encoding.
5. Design, it's ugly, plasticy, why did they give the matt finish to the cheaper version? I'd have much preffered that.
6. The games, as a big racing fan (own Dirt 2, GT P, Motorstorm) I was looking forward to trying out forza 3 and PGR4, well that was a let down, graphics are awful.
7. I though this was a serious console? yet when I turn it on it's like a wii, I have to create and dress a flippin charachter, I felt like a ten year old.
8. The Menu's, slow, poorly designed etc etc (I did like the boot up graphics though)
9. No Gigabit ethernet
10. No Dual Band Wireless N
11. You have to use propietary Hard Drives (I have a 640gb 2.5" in my PS3)
12. Xbox live, after signing up to the 1 month free trial I got I went online with COD4 something I love on the PS3, all I got was a bunch of yanky teenagers talking rubbish and foul mouthed.
13. no blu-ray drive
14. Playing games in the dark is a nightmare as you get a really bright green LED on the controller blinding you.
15. I sometimes also play in bed when the Mrs is asleep but I can't with this, 1. because the console is so loud and 2. because the controllers are really clicky and noisy.

Save your money and get a PS3, a much better overall experience.

My Xbox Elite broke right when this came out (... strange ... and my gf bought the lie ... lol) and I bought this one. It is not that much change except for the dvd reader which is very very silent (you almost think it is broken beacuse you cant hear anything) and the in-built wireless. The cover is so nice that now it has a place in my shelf with all my entertainment (dolby, dvd player, sky box) while before it looked a little bit out of place. I look forward to the release of the Kinetik. the only negative thing is that it doesn't come with a cable to transfer the old hard disk to the new one. No big deal really but for upgraders like me it would be a plus.

The xbox 360 is stunning to look at and to play on. when I bought mine I couldn't wait to play it, reading all the reviews the Xbox looked like it was amazing. here are some of the pro's and con's I found:
PRO'S
- 250gb hard drive
- touch sensitive buttons
- smaller Xbox
- chrome guide button
- smaller power brick
- 5 USB ports
CON'S
- FINGER PRINT MAGNET!
- Xbox is sometimes quiet
- power brick makes a lot of noise
- games are warm when they come out of the disk tray
- you have to buy a transfer cable to move your content (if you want to do it with no hassle)

4 out of 5 stars READ THIS IF YOU'RE GOING TO BUY IT .... IT WILL SAVE YOU MONEY   August 24, 2010

My son has just bought this and the first we noticed was there was no free HDMI Cable and no Free 12 months Microsoft Live Gold Memebership. Hang on ... Isn't that what is promised in the advert? Well YES and NO. You have to order the bundle. So if like my son you simply click on it and add to cart you'll miss the bit where you have to select the HDMI cable and add it to the cart, there's also the bit where you discover you need to add XBOX LIVE bundle as well **BUT** that's not free, it's discounted so the FREE only refers to HDMI. Bit mean and misleading in the advert if you ask me.
Anyway, apart from that the XBOX360 is like the old one in name only. The new HDMI output is great, it's 60% of the size of the old one, it looks sleeker and refined, it's absolutely whisper quiet, we couldn't hear a thing and we listened carefully especially after all the moans on here about noise... I think those folks have got a duff box. Anyway we gave it an all night workover and my son was delighted. I'm not so easily impressed and thought that the simple addition of some USB ports, better controls and a makeover and a wireless that should have been there from the begining still wasn't enought to warrant a new box. Still it's his pocket money and not mine. Personally I think what you have now is an XBOX360 that is *nearly* as good and as comprehensive as a PS3. I say nearly because in all honesty the PS3 is way slicker even now. I'm a PC gamer so I have no axe to grind with consoles but in terms of ability and presentation and delivery of content it's PS3, XBOX360(250Gb) Wii.
